MEMBERSHIP
To become a member is straightforward – contact the club secretary (or one of our other club members) and attend 3 meetings. This enables you
to understand what the club is about, get a feeling for the way in which it operates and enables the club to take a measure of you.
We meet once a month at the RAFA club and whilst there is business to be dealt with there is time for fun and
socialising. The meeting culminates with “Tail Twisting” which provides the opportunity for laughter and comedians
+ the relieving of your pocket of a small amount of money. There are also committee meetings once a month as appropriate.
Social evenings and events enable partners to be involved and provide the opportunity for relaxation and friendship. No pressure is exerted on members to put Lions before family or business, give what you can is the byword.
After 3 meetings if both parties are happy you will be sworn in as a member in a simple ceremony, pay your dues
and off you go.
Social Events are very much a part of being a Formby Lion.We hold regular events, usually one every month - including walks, theatre trips, barbeques,
wine tasting, guest speakers, Christmas Party and the highlight of the year our annual charter night dinner.
Set out below is a poem that was written by the late sister-in-law of District Governor Sylvia Fosberry which we hope
gives expression to the benefits of being in Lions: -
Lending a hand to help the weak,
And nobody gave us a care,
If the prizes of life all went to the strong,
And nobody gave us a share,
If nobody had the time to give a thought to you or me,
And we had to struggle, as best we could.
What a hopeless world it would be.
Can lighten the load,
Giving of our best with a willing heart,
Can brighten a lonely road:
Someone to love;
That the purpose of life depends,
And there’s nothing to equal,
The gladness and joy,
Of the making and keeping friends.
